Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) is conducting searches at the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the country's central bank, and at the home of one of its employees. The case matters because it involves the institution responsible for monetary policy, and its governor's name is being mentioned in connection with the probe.

Parliament member Yaroslav Zhelezniak wrote on his Telegram channel that, according to his sources, NABU had arrived to see NBU governor Andriy Pyshnyi directly. He said investigative actions were under way in the governor's office, and suggested they were not limited to Pyshnyi's workplace.

Official statements

NABU confirmed that its detectives are carrying out the searches under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). Its statement said nobody has been detained and nobody has been notified of suspect status. The identity of the employee whose home is being searched is not being disclosed. NABU stresses that the actions are authorized and comply with current law, but it is withholding further details to protect the secrecy of the pre-trial investigation.

The National Bank confirmed that investigative actions are taking place on its premises and said further explanations would follow once the procedural steps are completed. The bank said it continues to operate as usual.

Unconfirmed assumptions

Citing informed sources, Zhelezniak said the searches linked to Pyshnyi are reportedly connected to the "KarpatNeft" plant. The lawmaker believes Pyshnyi might submit his resignation, which the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, could approve on 26 October. In that case, First Deputy Governor Serhiy Nykolaychuk would temporarily take over his duties. None of this has been officially confirmed.

Earlier NABU investigations

On 10 November 2025, NABU and SAP publicly announced an investigation into the misappropriation of 100 million US dollars in public funds at the state energy company Energoatom. Energy minister Svitlana Hrynchuk and justice minister Herman Halushchenko were named in that case at the time.

In early September, the agencies also released recordings obtained during Operation Karthage. It uncovered a criminal organization set up by one of the heads of a Prosecutor General's Office unit. The group took bribes in exchange for not interfering with fraudulent call centers.
