Ukrainian Foreign Minister Tells Russia to Stop Believing in 'Spirit of Anchorage' and Start Peace Talks
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded to Russian claims about the 'spirit of Anchorage', stressing that any peace plan made without Ukraine is doomed, and called on Moscow to engage in real negotiations.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has reacted on social media to recent Russian allegations that the United States is retreating from the so-called 'spirit of Anchorage'. He stated that no one outside Russia fully understands what Moscow means by that term.
Sybiha said that reality makes one thing clear: if the 'Spirit of Anchorage' ever existed, it is certainly dead now. The lesson for Russia from Anchorage is that any peace plan developed without Ukraine is destined to disappear like a ghost.
The minister urged Moscow to stop believing in spirits and to respond to Ukraine's serious proposals to sit down at the negotiating table and end the war. He warned that the longer Putin refuses to accept the reality that he will never achieve his goals on the battlefield, the worse things will get for Russia.
In recent days, senior Russian officials have complained that the United States is no longer an objective mediator in ending the war and have repeatedly referred to alleged understandings reached in Anchorage. However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later said that no agreements on Ukraine were reached during last year's summit.
According to media reports, during last week's G7 summit, President Trump indicated that he could abandon the so-called 'Anchorage understanding'. Trump also publicly stated that the Ukrainian president was 'doing a pretty good job' in the war, marking a notable shift in his rhetoric during his second term.
