Ukraine can win battles, but without the word ‘victory,’ it loses the war

NATO's former deputy commander says only Ukraine itself names victory as the goal. A former defense minister warns that without naming it, even a battlefield win is no victory at all.

A former deputy commander of NATO has stated that Ukraine is the only party in the conflict that explicitly defines victory as its war aim. This observation comes amid ongoing debates over Western support and strategic direction.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's former defense minister cautioned that without explicitly articulating the concept of victory, even tactical successes on the battlefield do not constitute a true victory. He stressed that the word “victory” must be central to both political and military planning.

Analysts note that this approach can influence public morale and international backing. If the objective is not clearly defined, even significant gains may be perceived as insufficient.

These comments emerge as Ukrainian forces continue to defend against Russian aggression and Western nations deliberate on further military aid.
