Ukraine strikes Russian fleet, refinery and radar overnight as Zelenskyy seeks more Patriots

Ukraine carried out overnight strikes on Russia's fleet at Novorossiysk, a refinery in Salavat, and a radar site in Sevastopol. President Zelenskyy told CNN that even 5% of US Patriot stocks would help Ukraine get through the winter.

Ukrainian forces conducted a series of strikes overnight into August 13 against Russian military and industrial targets. The attacks hit infrastructure linked to Russia's fleet at Novorossiysk, an oil refinery in Salavat, and a radar installation in occupied Sevastopol, Crimea.

Zelenskyy calls for more air defense

Speaking to CNN, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that even a small share — around 5% — of the United States' Patriot air defense system stocks would be enough to help Ukraine get through the coming winter. The statement underscores Kyiv's ongoing effort to secure additional military support from its allies to bolster air defenses ahead of expected Russian aerial attacks in the colder months.

The strikes on Russian refining and naval infrastructure fit into Ukraine's broader strategy of undermining Russia's military and economic capacity to sustain the war by targeting energy and logistics facilities far from the front line.
