A three-year-old boy who was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst farm and zoo in Cambridgeshire has undergone five surgeries and faces a long recovery. His family provided an update and thanked donors who raised over £25,000.

His parents said they have been “living at the hospital” since the incident on 18 June. In a statement on the fundraising page, they expressed extreme gratitude for the donations. They noted that their son has had five surgeries and needs at least two more, describing the past two weeks as “a very uncertain and unsettling time.” The rehabilitation journey will not be short.

The funds have been used for expenses, as both parents are away from work indefinitely. Future donations will support their son’s rehabilitation and give back to the hospital.

A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later bailed after being assessed as unfit for interview. The suspect reportedly has learning disabilities and was on a trip with carers.

Cambridgeshire police confirmed the boy sustained serious injuries from a crocodile. The family thanked the zoo staff for rescuing him. Co-owner Tracey Johnson jumped into the enclosure to save the child.

Zoo owners praised the “incredible speed and determination” of responders. In a social media post, they thanked visitors, including off-duty paramedics and police officers, and their own staff who “responded without hesitation and did everything they could to help the child until emergency services arrived.”
