Trump and Xi Discuss Ukraine, Middle East and Korean Peninsula in White House Talks

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping touched on several international issues during a meeting at the White House, including developments in Ukraine, the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula. The Washington Post reported the details, citing an official statement from the Chinese government.

According to that statement, the two leaders exchanged views on global and regional matters. They also expressed support for holding further regional meetings in the coming weeks. China is set to host the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November, while the United States will hold this year's G20 summit in Florida. The statement did not specify whether either leader plans to attend the other's summit.

Xi also said the two presidents had agreed to pursue what he described as constructive, strategic and stable relations between China and the United States, adding that such ties would benefit not only the Chinese and American peoples but people around the world.

Xi Jinping is visiting the United States from September 23 to 25 at Trump's invitation. A day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that during his own meeting with Trump, he raised the idea of involving Xi Jinping in talks aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
