Trump Demands 'Loyalty' from NATO Allies
US President Donald Trump, during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, said he wants 'loyalty' from alliance members, linking it to defense spending.

US President Donald Trump stated at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that he expects 'loyalty' from the alliance's allies. The White House broadcast the event. When asked by a journalist what he wants from NATO partners beyond their current commitments, Trump replied: "I just want their loyalty. Just give us a little kiss. We don't ask for much. And they say, 'No, we can't do that.'"
The president recalled that American troops are stationed in Germany and tied the issue of loyalty to allies' defense expenditures. This remark comes amid ongoing discussions within NATO about member states meeting the target of spending at least 2% of GDP on defense.
In another part of the press conference, Trump noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is "doing pretty well." The comment was made as the United States continues to provide military aid to Ukraine in its war against Russian aggression.
