US President Donald Trump spoke on Saturday at the nation's 250th Independence Day celebration in Washington, D.C., after a nearly two-hour delay caused by a severe thunderstorm. Trump thanked the audience for their patience, saying he was ready to speak even if only one person remained.

Extreme heat and storms disrupted Independence Day events across several states. Celebrations were canceled in Hartford, Connecticut; Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In Boston, New York, and Pittsburgh, event times were adjusted. In Washington, strong winds and lightning forced a temporary evacuation of the National Mall, where festivities were held. The area later reopened, and Trump delivered a 40-minute address followed by a fireworks display featuring 850,000 shells from ten locations.

In his speech, Trump repeatedly warned about the dangers of communism, calling it "a loser" and comparing it to "cancer" that must be "cut out quickly." He contrasted the communist system with the American system, asserting that communism has never worked. Recently, Trump has frequently used the term "communism" to criticize left-wing Democrats, though he did not name them directly this time.

Trump listed several US achievements, including victories in wars, the moon landing, and the Wright brothers' first powered flight. He also called on Congress to pass stalled bills that would restrict mail-in voting and require proof of citizenship for voter registration. The president claimed the US had destroyed Iran's armed forces, honored war veterans, and defended the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
