Tragedy on Lake Usma: One Dead After Jet Ski Collision; Acquaintance Points to Possible Causes

Early this week, a fatal accident involving jet skis occurred on Lake Usma, leaving one person dead. The State Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses, as the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Several people were riding rented jet skis when the collision happened. One rider sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, but died on the way.

A friend of the deceased told the TV program “Degpunktā” that multiple factors could have contributed to the tragedy. These include possible alcohol use and excessive speed. The friend also expressed concern over the victim’s rescue: instead of being carefully brought ashore, the injured man was pulled onto a jet ski, which may have worsened his injuries. In the friend’s view, more cautious handling might have saved his life.

Police continue to gather evidence and are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward. No further details have been released at this stage.
