Tbilisi's Iberia reach Europa League play-off round for first time in club history
Georgian club Tbilisi Iberia beat Northern Ireland's Larne in extra time to reach the UEFA Europa League qualifying play-off round for the first time ever.
On Tuesday, August 11, Georgian side Tbilisi Iberia defeated Northern Ireland's Larne 2:1 after extra time in a UEFA Europa League qualifying second-leg match played in front of their home fans. The win sent Iberia into the Europa League qualifying play-off round for the first time in the club's history.
Previously, Iberia's best-ever result in European competition was reaching the Europa League qualifying third round ahead of the 2019/2020 season.
How the match unfolded
Across the two legs between the sides, the first goal did not come until the 74th minute, when Vakho Bedoshvili put Iberia ahead. Larne responded almost immediately, equalising the aggregate score just two minutes later through James Simpson.
With the aggregate score level after the second leg, the match went to extra time. The decisive goal came in the 102nd minute, scored by Nika Sikharulashvili, sealing Iberia's progress to the next round.
Next opponent
In the Europa League qualifying play-off round, Iberia will face the winner of the tie between Glasgow Rangers and Poland's Jagiellonia Białystok, which was still ongoing.
