The Ikšķile Cultural Society has produced a documentary short film titled “Par kamanām, virāžām un dzīvi” (About Sleds, Curves and Life), together with photo and video artists Jurģis Kreilis and Ieva Kaņepe. It tells the story of Dainis Bremze, a luge athlete from Ikšķile, and continues the society's series of documentary stories about people important to the town. The premiere is scheduled for 13 November at 18:00 at the Ikšķile library.
Who the film is about
Dainis Bremze won the 1978 world championship in luge doubles, competing with Aigars Kriķis. He took part in the XII and XIII Winter Olympic Games, was a three-time champion of the USSR, and served as president of the Latvian Luge Federation from 1998 to 2001.
What the story covers
The filmmakers describe it as a simple, sincere story about the energy of young men, the joy of movement and a passion for various sports that grew into a serious professional luge career. It also deals with parental support and the enthusiasm with which training tracks in Ikšķile were built by hand.
The film also looks at the beginnings of luge in Latvia, its athletes and coaches, the opportunities and challenges of the time, and themes of enthusiasm, courage and perseverance.
Support
The film was made with the support of the Ogre municipality in the project competition “R.A.D.I. – For Ogre Municipality 2026”.
