Sunākste Residents Asked to Share Photos of Newly Paved Road to the Parish
The Sunākste community hall and parish library in Aizkraukle Municipality are collecting residents' photos for an exhibition on the past and present of the road to Sunākste. The road from Daudzese to Sunākste has been paved.
In Sunākste parish, Aizkraukle Municipality, a collection of photographs has begun for an exhibition about the road linking the parish with Riga and the municipal centre. The initiative comes from the Sunākste community hall and the Sunākste parish library. They want to preserve the road's reconstruction as an important historical event and show how the road looked in the past compared with today.
The paved road from Daudzese to Sunākste is described as the most significant event of the century for the parish. The initiative's authors say residents waited many years for this moment. In their words, it was a dream, a hope and at times a test of patience. Many parents and grandparents did not live to see the paved road.
What is being requested
The exhibition is meant to tell the story of the Sunākste road's past, changes and present. Every Sunākste resident, former resident and anyone living in Aizkraukle Municipality is invited to contribute. Particularly welcome are images showing the road before asphalt, during repair work and today.
Photographs can be sent to either the community hall or the library.
The authors stress that people can now be glad that, for their children and grandchildren, the road to Sunākste from the direction of Riga and the municipal centre has become attractive, tidy and scenic. The original publication also includes an image from the newspaper Staburags' archive showing road construction and the forming of gravel columns.
