Sorkin Returns to Facebook Story With "The Social Reckoning"
Fifteen years after "The Social Network", writer and director Aaron Sorkin revisits Facebook in a new film. It tells the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison.
Fifteen years after "The Social Network", Aaron Sorkin is turning his attention to Facebook once more. His new film, "The Social Reckoning", examines what the platform has become and the part it plays in division, extremism and misinformation in America. Those same themes have underpinned his long-running public feud with Mark Zuckerberg.
The film is based on the true story of Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. She is portrayed by Oscar-nominated actress Mikey Madison, known for "Anora". Haugen leaked thousands of the company's internal documents to Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who is played by Jeremy Allen White of "The Bear".
A conversation with the filmmakers
FRANCE 24's Culture editor Eve Jackson sat down with all three to discuss the film. The conversation also covered the fight for truth in journalism and the power of social media today.
The interview with Sorkin, Madison and White is featured in the latest edition of the arts24 programme, published on 8 October 2026.
