Finnish Experts: Situation in Crimea Worsening, Damaging Putin's Reputation
Russian-occupied Crimea is facing acute fuel shortages and power outages after Ukrainian strikes, threatening the tourist season and tarnishing Putin's image, according to Finnish military analysts.

The situation in Russian-occupied Crimea is deteriorating rapidly. After Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure, the region is experiencing severe fuel shortages and widespread blackouts during the peak tourist season. Finnish military experts assess that this is significantly damaging President Vladimir Putin's reputation.
In recent days, Ukraine has intensified attacks on Crimea, targeting power plants, fuel depots, bridges, and railway lines. Finnish military expert Ilmari Kääihkö stated that Ukraine is increasingly successfully attacking Russian rear and logistics, effectively isolating the Crimean peninsula.
According to The Kyiv Independent, nearly half of the peninsula was left without electricity on Monday. The strikes caused a critical fuel shortage, leading to a suspension of car fuel sales to civilians in the occupied territory starting June 21.
Kääihkö noted that the timing is problematic as the tourist season, a key economic driver for Crimea, has just begun. Russian authorities in Crimea have canceled several events, including children's summer camps. "If there is no fuel and no electricity, what are these children supposed to do there? Naturally, people no longer want to go there," the expert said.
Finnish military analyst Emil Kastehelmi emphasized that Ukraine's goal is not so much to intimidate civilians but to degrade Russian military capabilities. He argued that Ukraine wants to force Moscow to expend resources on defending Crimea. Both experts agree that Ukraine currently cannot recapture Crimea, as that would require a major ground operation and significant additional forces that Ukraine lacks.
