Number of Finnish households renting their homes rises by 11,000 in a year
At the end of 2025, Finland had 1.04 million households living in rented housing, 11,000 more than a year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

Finland had 1.04 million households living in rented homes at the end of 2025, which is 11,000 more than a year earlier, according to Statistics Finland, the country's national statistics agency.
Over the past ten years, the number of such households has grown by roughly 200,000. In total, 1.6 million people were living in rented apartments and houses by the end of last year.
Who is renting
About 65% of renting households consisted of one person. Over the year, the most noticeable increase was among renting households made up of at least two people.
More than half of all households living in rented housing were located in Finland's ten largest cities.
Owning remains more common
Living in owned housing is still the most widespread option in the country. At the end of 2025, 3.7 million people lived in houses and apartments that they owned. The number of households living in their own homes fell by about 7,000 over the year.
