Smirnovs scores for Ajoie in pre-season Coupe des Bains tournament in Switzerland
Latvian forward Deniss Smirnovs scored a goal as Swiss club Ajoie won its pre-season tournament opener in Yverdon. The tournament also features other European clubs, including one with Latvian goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis.

A pre-season tournament called the Coupe des Bains has begun in Yverdon, Switzerland, bringing together several European hockey clubs. In the opening game, National League newcomer Ajoie defeated Rouen's Dragons 5:1.
One of Ajoie's goals was scored by Latvian national team forward Deniss Smirnovs, marking his second goal of the summer. Finnish player Jeremi Turkulainen scored twice for the winning side.
Other participants
Also competing in the Yverdon tournament are Swiss champions Fribourg, the Bremerhaven club — whose goal is defended by Latvian national team goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis — and Lausanne. Bremerhaven and Lausanne are scheduled to meet on Tuesday evening at 21:15.
Smirnovs' previous season
Last season Smirnovs played for Switzerland's Kloten club, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) in 42 games with a negative plus-minus rating. At the World Championship, the 27-year-old forward tallied nine points (three goals, six assists) in eight games with a positive plus-minus rating.
