Scotland claimed a nail-biting one-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 Tri-Series match at Forthill in Dundee, with the result coming down to the final ball.
Batting first, the UAE posted 231 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 40 overs. Wicketkeeper-opener Adeeb Usmani was the standout performer, scoring 116 runs including three sixes and 11 fours.
Chasing 231 for victory, Scotland made a rocky start. Experienced batsmen George Munsey and Brandon McMullen, who had earlier been the pick of Scotland's bowlers with figures of 3-30, both fell without scoring, leaving the hosts struggling at 2-2.
Finlay McCreath (28) and Richie Berrington (39) helped steady Scotland's innings, and a partnership of 72 for the fifth wicket between Michael Jones (44) and Matthew Cross (66) kept the chase alive, though the match remained tense to the end.
It fell to Jasper Davidson to seal the win, striking the decisive boundary off the penultimate ball after having leveled the scores by running two off the previous delivery. Scotland finished on 235-9.
The victory came just two days after Scotland beat Canada by nine runs at the same venue, a result that had already confirmed their qualification for next year's World Cup Qualifier.
