Syria's first women graduate from new police academy
Around 150 women have completed a six-month course at Syria's new police academy in Al-Tal, part of efforts to rebuild security forces. The graduates are expected to join Interior Ministry units across the country.
Around 150 women have graduated from a newly established police academy in Al-Tal, north of Damascus, marking the first cohort trained under Syria's new authorities. The graduation ceremony featured the women marching and demonstrating exercises learned during their training.
The six-month course combined military and physical training with instruction in police procedures, law, and fieldwork.
The academy forms part of broader efforts by Syria's new leadership to rebuild the country's security forces and expand the role of women within policing. One graduate, 22-year-old May Aklajneh, said becoming a policewoman had been a childhood dream and that she signed up as soon as recruitment opened.
The newly trained officers are expected to be deployed to Interior Ministry units throughout Syria.
