Russian navy officer who once commanded Ukraine's submarine killed in Sevastopol blast

An explosion in Sevastopol's Stoletovsky Prospekt killed Russian Navy officer Robert Shageyev. According to Russian sources, an explosive device had been placed in a trash bin near a bench and detonated as the man was walking up stairs with a friend.
The Telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" reported that the victim was a captain 1st rank who had previously commanded Ukraine's only submarine, "Zaporizhzhia." In 2014 he defected to the Russian side, for which Ukraine charged him with treason. According to 2022 data, Shageyev had most recently served as deputy commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet 4th Separate Submarine Brigade.
Suspect detained
Witnesses said an unfamiliar woman carrying a backpack was seen near the site before the blast, watching the man, and that she later triggered the device. Local residents detained the woman as she tried to leave the scene.
News of the incident also spread on social media, including accounts sympathetic to Ukraine, which described Shageyev as a traitor who had helped Russia's 2014 military invasion.
