A shooting at an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday killed at least one person and injured six others, according to local officials. The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed that two of its own officers were among those hurt, and urged residents to steer clear of the surrounding area.

Authorities did not immediately specify how many people had been shot, but Hennepin County Medical Center reported treating seven patients, one of whom died. No further details on the condition of the remaining patients were released.

Footage circulating on social media showed officers pointing rifles upward toward a residential tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Officials warned people to avoid the nearby Loring Park neighborhood, a densely populated area close to the scene.

Officials respond

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said on social media that state personnel were on site assisting local police with the response, thanking law enforcement for their efforts to keep residents safe and offering support to first responders.

The FBI also became involved, with Director Kash Patel saying the agency would provide any resources needed to support local authorities investigating the shooting.

Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth described the incident as a "heinous crime" in a social media statement, expressing gratitude for what she called a massive response from law enforcement officers.
