WorldSkills 2026 opens in Shanghai with humanoid robots joining dancers
The 48th WorldSkills Competition has opened in Shanghai with an opening ceremony featuring humanoid robots dancing alongside human performers, bringing together 1,385 competitors from 68 countries.
The 48th edition of the WorldSkills Competition has officially opened in Shanghai, with an opening ceremony that drew cheers from the audience for a striking performance combining humanoid robots and human dancers.
Running from 22 to 27 September, the event gathers 1,385 competitors from 68 countries who will take part across 64 different skill events. The categories span a wide range of fields, including construction, manufacturing, information technology, creative arts and personal services.
Host nation China fields the largest delegation, with 71 competitors entered across all 64 skill categories. The competition portion of the event takes place from 23 to 26 September at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
