Samsung may be developing an even wider foldable than the Galaxy Z Fold 8
South Korean outlet ETNews reports Samsung is working on a new foldable with a wider screen aspect ratio than the current Galaxy Z Fold 8, possibly launching in 2027.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has received widespread praise since its release, and its success appears to be prompting Samsung to reconsider its overall approach to foldable smartphones. According to a report from South Korean outlet ETNews, Samsung is reportedly developing a new foldable device with a wider screen than the current Z Fold 8.
Details remain scarce, but the device is said to be targeting a 2027 release and likely won't retain the 4:3 aspect ratio found on the current model. The report indicates Samsung wants to create a screen ratio better optimized for video viewing, which could point toward something like a 16:9 or 16:10 format, though this remains speculative for now.
Reviews of the Z Fold 8 have been largely positive, with one notable drawback: its 4:3 main display causes letterboxing around most video content, despite being marketed as ideal for full-screen viewing. The 10:16 cover screen performs somewhat better but doesn't fully solve the issue. A redesigned aspect ratio could address this shortcoming.
More foldables on the horizon
ETNews also indicates Samsung is preparing five foldable devices for 2027, including successors to the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8, plus a refreshed version of the Galaxy Z TriFold. The original TriFold was discontinued, likely due to its steep $2,900 launch price.
Official confirmation of these rumors will likely have to wait until Samsung's Unpacked event in 2027, which based on past scheduling could take place next July. In the meantime, more concrete details about Apple's long-rumored foldable device may emerge later this year alongside the company's updated iPhone lineup.
