Samsung debuts its first clip-on earbuds in South Korea

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on style earbuds, launching initially only in its home South Korean market. A wider global release is promised but no details have been shared yet.

Samsung has joined the growing list of manufacturers offering clip-on style earbuds, a format already popularized by Bose, Huawei and Shokz. The new Galaxy Buds On were announced Thursday for the South Korean domestic market, while buyers elsewhere will need to wait for a broader release.

Design and technology

Unlike conventional in-ear buds, the clip-on design latches onto the outer ear while leaving the ear canal open. This can be more comfortable for people who dislike the sensation of something inserted into the ear, but the open design typically makes sound leakage more likely.

Samsung says it has tackled that issue with a TwinBoost speaker system designed to enhance bass output, paired with automatic volume adjustment that reacts to the surrounding environment. To improve comfort, the company gave the buds a wider contact area intended to spread pressure more evenly. Touch controls are located on the back of each bud, and a voice-isolating feature aims to improve call clarity.

9to5Google has pointed out that the charging case looks nearly identical on the outside to the one that comes with the Galaxy Buds 4.

Extra features and pricing

Owners of compatible Galaxy devices gain access to additional perks, including hands-free head gestures for managing calls, support for Gemini Live, and a Quick Voice Memo feature triggered by pressing and holding the touch area.

The Galaxy Buds On will go on sale in South Korea on October 27 in a single black color option, priced at 299,000 won — roughly $220. Samsung has confirmed a global rollout will follow but has not yet specified which regions, when, or at what price.
