Work begins on a conservation plan for the Randu pļavas nature reserve
On 7 October in Salacgrīva, Latvia's Nature Conservation Agency began drawing up a protection plan for the Randu pļavas nature reserve for 2028–2040. The first meeting brought together experts, municipal representatives and owners of neighbouring properties.
A meeting held on 7 October at the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP) offices in Salacgrīva launched the drafting of a nature protection plan for the Randu pļavas nature reserve. DAP is the Latvian state body responsible for protected natural areas. The plan is to cover 12 years, from 2028 to 2040, and will set out how the reserve in Limbaži municipality is to be managed and preserved.
Who took part
The meeting was attended by experts, representatives of the Limbaži municipality, owners of properties adjoining the territory, and other interested people. At the start of the planning process, specialists and those whose daily lives are tied to the reserve were therefore in the same room.
Purpose of the meeting
The aim was to look at Randu pļavas from several points of view. For some people the valuable natural area is home, for others it is a walking trail, and some are simply proud that such a place lies in their part of the country.
A fuller account of the meeting has been published in the newspaper Auseklis and its e-edition.
