Over 87,000 voters have already cast ballots ahead of Saeima elections

Latvia's Central Election Commission (CVK) has released turnout figures for the first three days of advance voting ahead of the 15th Saeima elections. So far, 87,105 people — at least 5.59% of the country's 1,557,615 eligible voters — have cast their ballots for safekeeping.

Turnout in Riga is slightly above the national average, with 38,072 residents, or 6.35% of the capital's eligible voters, having voted. That figure includes nearly 4,900 Latvians living abroad who registered to vote by mail.

Regional breakdown

Among Latvia's regions, Vidzeme has shown the highest activity, with just over 24,500 voters, or 6.11%, having cast ballots. Zemgale followed at 4.69% turnout, while Kurzeme recorded 4.76%. Latgale currently shows the lowest turnout, with just under 7,000 voters, or 3.74%, having taken part.

CVK notes that data from some polling stations is still being processed, meaning the overall figures may change. Latvia's State Regional Development Agency confirmed that the electronic voting platform continued to operate smoothly.

Voters can cast their ballots for safekeeping at any of the country's 933 polling stations on every working day this week. According to CVK, this method of voting allows citizens to change their mind and replace their submitted ballot up until election day itself. The 15th Saeima elections will be held on Saturday.
