Members of several Saeima (Latvia's parliament) committees expressed surprise today, 21 October, at the structure of additional funding requested by the Latvian Health Ministry for next year. In the ministry's compiled list of high-priority needs that urgently require extra money next year, the largest amount, €32.95 million, is requested for cybersecurity.

The joint meeting brought together the Latgale subcommittee of the Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee, the Sustainable Development Committee and the Public Health subcommittee of the Social and Employment Matters Committee. Participants were struck specifically by the fact that cybersecurity tops the ministry's list by amount.

The source does not say what the cybersecurity funds would be spent on or what sums are requested for other health sector needs.
