The 29th Sacred Music Festival has opened, bringing a change to the usual arrangement: the State Academic Choir Latvija will not be conducted by its artistic director Māris Sirmais this time, but instead by three other conductors.

Conductors Marika Austruma, Valdis Tomsons and Jānis Liepiņš will lead the choir during this year's festival concerts.

The festival programme also features newly written compositions, including a work by composer Pēteris Vasks. Audiences will therefore be able to hear both established sacred music pieces and premieres of new compositions.
