Romanian prosecutors indict man identified as Andrew Tate on trafficking and money laundering charges
Romanian authorities have formally indicted a British man identified by local media as influencer Andrew Tate on charges including minor trafficking and money laundering, while his brother Tristan was indicted for complicity and obstruction.
Romania's Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) announced on Friday that it had formally indicted a 38-year-old British man, identified by local outlets including Agerpress, Antena3 and Digi24 as controversial online influencer Andrew Tate. The charges include trafficking of minors, money laundering and sexual offences.
His 39-year-old brother, identified by the same outlets as Tristan Tate, was indicted on charges of complicity in the alleged offences and of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Details of the case
While DIICOT's press release does not name the men directly, it states the investigation concerns two British citizens aged 38 and 39 from the same family. Among the alleged offences is the sexual exploitation of a minor who was reportedly moved to Luton in the UK for the purposes of producing online pornography.
Prosecutors also allege attempts were made to stop another victim from reporting the matter to police.
As part of the investigation, prosecutors requested the confiscation of four luxury cars belonging to the men, together valued at €825,000.
The brothers have previously faced legal proceedings in Romania and are also subject to separate cases in the United States and the United Kingdom. They have consistently denied any wrongdoing.
