Ruks on service review: “I don’t feel I have earned any punishment”

State Police chief Armands Ruks has spoken publicly about the service review initiated by Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava, who represents the National Alliance. In an interview broadcast on the program “Kāpēc”, Ruks said he would accept a penalty if the review concluded that he had not done enough. However, he immediately added that, internally, he does not feel he has earned a punishment.

Ruks was also asked whether he believes the review will proceed smoothly. He replied that he is prepared for the process and does not feel anxious about it. The police chief then addressed the recent criticism directed at the State Police, stating that, in his view, it is not linked to the approaching elections. He made this remark when the interviewer raised the possibility of a political motive behind the criticism.
