Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has sharply condemned Manchester City over financial fraud revealed by an investigation, saying he would discard any trophies won that way.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane delivered a scathing critique of Manchester City ahead of England's match against Czechia, telling a television panel that he would throw away any medals won under such circumstances, calling it outright cheating.
Keane argued that City won on the pitch precisely because the club cheated off it.
What the investigation found
An investigation concluded that Manchester City falsified documents between 2009 and 2018, inflating figures related to sponsorship deals. Larger reported contracts and revenues allowed the club greater spending power in the transfer market, enabling it to sign stronger players.
The probe found that around 830 million pounds, roughly 971 million euros, was secretly funneled into the club. During that nine-year period, City won eight trophies, including three Premier League titles.
