Speaking at a briefing in Ankara before the start of the NATO leaders' plenary session, Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed confidence that the summit's final declaration will recognize Russia as a long-term threat to NATO territory. He noted that while the document has not yet been approved, the current drafts give reason for such certainty.

"I expect that today all allies will again jointly recognize that Russia is a long-term threat to NATO territory," Rutte said. He added that they should wait for the declaration's publication but he anticipates that the long-term threat from Russia will be mentioned.

Rutte also justified recent US strikes on Iran. Earlier, European Pravda reported, citing sources, that the NATO summit in Ankara would label Russia a threat.
