Three new bells consecrated at Riga Cathedral
On Sunday, 11 October, three new bells were consecrated at Riga Cathedral and named Jānis, Gabriels and Marija. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia announced it on Facebook.

Three new bells were consecrated on Sunday, 11 October, at Riga Cathedral, the Lutheran cathedral in Riga's Old Town. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia (LELB), one of the country's Lutheran church bodies, reported the event on Facebook. The bells will now form part of the soundscape of the cathedral.
The service and the names
The consecration service was led by LELB Archbishop Rinalds Grants together with Archbishop Emeritus Jānis Vanags. Each of the three new bells has been given a name: Jānis, Gabriels and Marija.
The description of the church's post says that from now on the sound of the bells will be heard across the Old Town, Riga's historic centre.
The church's wish
On social media the church expressed the hope that the sound of the bells would reach people's hearts, bring them together in shared prayer and remind them of what matters most in life.
In the post, LELB also shared lines from the chorale "Lai Dievu visi teic", which is included in the Lutheran hymnal.
The source does not say how many bells the cathedral had before, what size the new ones are, or when they will begin to ring regularly.
