Fire in ten-storey Riga apartment building injures one, two rescued

A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in a ten-storey residential building on Pūces Street in Riga, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported.

The service received the emergency call at 14:52. Upon arrival, firefighters found that electrical distribution cabinets were burning across floors three through six, with the fire covering an area of about 15 square metres.

Rescue operation

Seven residents managed to evacuate the building on their own before firefighters arrived. Two additional people were rescued from the smoke-filled building by the fire crews.

One person was injured in the incident and was handed over to paramedics from the Emergency Medical Service. Further details on the injured person's condition have not been released.

The fire was fully extinguished at 16:46, roughly two hours after the call came in. VUGD has not yet provided information on what may have caused the fire in the electrical distribution cabinets.
