Riga plans regular boat service linking Bolderāja and Vecmīlgrāvis

Starting next April, a boat service could connect Bolderāja and Vecmīlgrāvis across the Daugava River in Riga, with a ticket costing 1.5 euros and the trip taking about 20 minutes.

A responsible committee of the Riga City Council has discussed a pilot project to establish regular water transport between the Bolderāja and Vecmīlgrāvis districts, Latvian Radio reports.

The initiative aims to give residents an alternative way to cross between the right and left banks of the Daugava River, using a small boat instead of traveling around the city by land.

Price and duration

Under the plan, a one-way ticket would cost 1.5 euros, and the crossing itself would take around 20 minutes.

Planned launch

If the project moves forward as currently envisioned, regular service between the two Riga neighborhoods could begin as early as April of next year.

The pilot project was discussed at a meeting of the responsible Riga City Council committee, though further details about the boat operator, frequency of trips, or other organizational aspects have not yet been made public.
