Riga is set to host a practical exercise focused on constructing defensive barriers in the urban landscape. The event is organized by Riga City Council's Civil Protection Department in cooperation with the Engineer Company of the National Guard's 1st Riga Brigade.

Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the most intensive work scheduled between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Residents are urged to follow road signs, barricades, and organizers' instructions, as well as to plan alternative routes in advance.

The barriers will be built using concrete blocks, metal anti-tank hedgehogs, logs, and other elements. The exercise will also test the division of the area into functional zones, the management of pedestrian flows, and inter-agency cooperation. For safety reasons, the territory will be split into training, security, and restricted-access zones.

The municipality emphasizes that the exercise has been planned beforehand and that residents have no reason to be alarmed. Around 15 people will take part in the practical work, while approximately 50 representatives of state and municipal institutions will observe. The goal is to verify and improve the ability of services to act in a coordinated manner in the event of a national threat.
