RFS aims to reclaim Latvian league lead against Grobiņa

RFS host Grobiņa this evening in round 26 of the Latvian Virslīga, and a victory would allow the Riga-based club to reclaim top spot in the table, currently held by Riga FC following their 4:1 win over Ogre United with a heavily rotated squad. RFS still leads on points dropped.

The match comes after a difficult week in Europe for RFS, who lost 0:2 away to Jablonec of the Czech Republic on Thursday in the third round of the UEFA Conference League. Unlike the previous weekend, when RFS managed to postpone its domestic fixture against Super Nova to October, this time the club could not avoid clashing with the league schedule. Jablonec themselves had also played continental football before facing RFS, beating Slovacko 1:0 at home for a fifth consecutive win.

Dominant head-to-head record

RFS have already faced Grobiņa twice this season, winning both away matches — 1:0 in April and 3:1 in June. Across all 11 meetings between the two clubs, RFS have won every single one, with an aggregate score of 41:4. This season RFS remain unbeaten in all 19 league matches against teams outside the top three, while Grobiņa have taken just a single point against top-three opposition.

Grobiņa will be without right-back Krišjānis Rupeiks tonight due to suspension, after he picked up his ninth caution of the season in the club's previous match, a 0:4 loss to Riga FC.
