A chance discovery lies behind "I Think About a Cat" (Es domāju par kaķi), the new film by director Laila Pakalniņa. Her inspiration came from photo negatives that were destined to be destroyed. They were found in a plastic bag next to a waste container.

The find became the foundation of the film. In it, events from about fifty years ago enter an engaging and visually poetic dialogue with the present day.

The story of how the film came about shows that historical evidence sometimes ends up in the trash. Here, the discarded negatives became the starting point for a new work of cinema.
