New military-oriented vocational secondary school opens in Rēzekne district
The General Pēteris Radziņš Vocational Secondary School, Latvia's second military-oriented school of its kind, has opened its academic year in Malta. Twenty-four students from across Latvia will study there.
On Friday, September 25, the academic year was ceremonially launched at the new General Pēteris Radziņš Vocational Secondary School in Malta, Rēzekne municipality. The opening ceremony featured the new students marching in formation, marking the school's official start.
This is the second educational institution of its kind in Latvia, combining general secondary education with military training. Twenty-four young people from various regions of Latvia have enrolled to study at the new school.
A four-year program
Over the next four years, students will complete a secondary school curriculum leading to a general secondary education diploma, alongside specialized military training. Upon completing the program, graduates will receive the professional qualification of "Junior Military Instructor."
The establishment of this type of school reflects growing interest among young people in acquiring military knowledge already at secondary school age, while still retaining the opportunity to obtain a full general education.
