Latvian rapper ansis has spoken about the creation of his album «222» in an interview for the Latvian Radio 5 programme «Izstāsti albumu» ("Tell the Album's Story"). The album has been nominated for the Austra Award, a Latvian music prize.
Ansis explained that he does not see «222» as simply a collection of songs. Instead, he compares it to a film, with each track functioning as a sequential scene. According to him, taking individual songs out of that overall context and listening to them separately causes them to lose part of their meaning — the full story only comes through when the album is heard as a whole.
On the creative process
During the conversation, ansis also reflected on his broader approach to making albums. He admitted that while working on a record, he often feels that it might be his last. Yet once an album is finished, he does not feel drained — rather, he describes feeling like "fertile ground for a new mission," ready to move on to his next creative undertaking.
