Latvian rapper Reiks, known for his work in the group “Olas”, and singer Esmeralda, whose voice is heard on the hit “Nārnija”, have released a new joint song, “Vai drīkstam vēl tā” (roughly, “May we still do it this way?”). The track continues the collaboration between the two musicians after “Nārnija”.
A story of unspoken feelings
The song tells of two people who think about each other but, because of doubts, shyness and too many unanswered questions, never manage to meet. One distinctive feature is that the story can be heard from both sides, the girl's and the boy's.
Reiks (real name Arvis Reiks) says it is a story in which many people can recognise themselves, as people often overthink and invent reasons to be shy. In his view, sometimes one simply has to take the first step.
How the song came about
According to Reiks, the song was written in the summer at a house close to nature. Present were Rolands Priverts, who works under the name Heywhosthatkid, and Esmeralda (real name Laura Melbārde). They began playing chords on a guitar, Esmeralda started singing, and, in Reiks's words, everything naturally came together. He praised the singer as a great talent.
The song was produced by Heywhosthatkid, who describes it as an eclectic blend of house music, hip-hop and pop with a personal meaning. The producer admits that the message of the song became clear to him only after it was finished, which makes it special for him.
The source text notes that all of Esmeralda's previously released singles and collaborations have drawn considerable interest.
