Razer Naga V3 Pro Review: A Mouse With Buttons to Spare

Wired has published a review of the new Razer Naga V3 Pro gaming mouse, which continues the brand's decade-plus tradition of offering a large number of buttons paired with a comfortable, palm-friendly shape. Unlike many of today's ultra-lightweight mice built for competitive shooters, the Naga V3 Pro targets users who prioritize comfort and customization.

Shape and Weight

The shell has changed little since 2015, with the main new addition being a third mouse button that also doubles as a side finger rest. Although the heaviest twelve-button side panel brings total weight to 116 grams, the reviewer notes the weight is distributed so well that the mouse rarely feels heavy. The main downside is that it's only sold in black.

Swappable Side Panels

The standout feature is three magnetically attached, interchangeable side panels offering two, six, or twelve programmable buttons, which can be swapped in seconds. Razer Synapse software automatically detects the installed panel and stores a separate keymap for each. The two-button panel suits shooters, the six-button option works well for games needing occasional extra commands, and the twelve-button, numpad-like panel is best for ability-heavy games such as MMOs, though it has a steeper learning curve.

Build Quality and Software

Internally, the mouse is described as robust and over-engineered, featuring six separate circuit boards and a scroll wheel whose three microswitches can each be replaced independently. The reviewer cautions that heavy software dependence carries risks, noting that older Razer mice relying on the now-discontinued Synapse V2 suffer software issues even though the hardware itself still works.
