The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday that the real extent of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be up to four times larger than the official case count.

Official DRC figures report that the hemorrhagic fever has infected more than 1,960 people and killed over 700 since it was detected in mid-May. However, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, WHO's emergencies director, stated that WHO modeling indicates "the scale of the outbreak is at least two to four times the number of cases that we have found."
