Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree increasing the official strength of the Russian army by 7,360 military personnel, bringing the total to 1,510,000 servicemen.

Decree on Army Expansion
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that increases the official staffing level of the Russian army. According to information from the Russian Ministry of Defense and the RBK agency, the total personnel strength is set at 2,399,130 people, of which 1,510,000 are military personnel.
For comparison, the previous decree dated March 4, 2026, set the number of military personnel at 1,502,640. Thus, the staffing level has increased by 7,360 people.
Putin's Statement on Troops in Ukraine
Putin previously stated during a meeting with Russian military personnel that more than 700,000 people are involved in the war against Ukraine. He said: "We have a large group there (in the war against Ukraine — ed.), over 700 thousand people."
