Vladimir Putin’s trust and approval ratings both fell for a second consecutive week, according to fresh polling data from the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM), covering the week of June 29 through July 5.

The presidential approval rating fell to 66.0% from 66.9% the previous week. The trust rating dropped to 72.3% from 73.3% — the week before that it had stood at 76.7%.

VTsIOM said the survey used a combined methodology. In early May, the center changed its methodology to add door-to-door surveys alongside telephone interviews, asking respondents in person.

The independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo reported that, according to the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), the defining event of the week for most Russians was a gasoline shortage and rising fuel prices.
