Puče and Ēķis: Kulbergs' Election Success Is No Accident
On TV24's programme "Nedēļa. Post Scriptum", journalist Armands Puče and producer Andrejs Ēķis discussed the election results and Andris Kulbergs. They said his success reflects an era dominated by influencers and a speaking style voters find convincing.

On the programme "Nedēļa. Post Scriptum" on the Latvian TV channel TV24, journalist Armands Puče and producer and director Andrejs Ēķis analysed the election results and the personality of Andris Kulbergs. Both agreed that his success should not be regarded as a coincidence.
Eras change, people do not
Puče stressed that eras and communication tools change, but human nature stays the same. He noted that people today have different devices, yet they have the same weaknesses, challenges and courage as in 1940. In his view, the key question is how well society understands political technologies.
About Kulbergs, Puče said it cannot be claimed that he appeared out of nowhere. Some people smile that he only makes clips, he said, but the current era is one in which influencers dominate.
What a "garage boss" means
Ēķis drew attention to how other people's remarks about Kulbergs can take on a completely different meaning. He recalled that Alvis Hermanis, wanting to belittle Kulbergs, called him a "garage boss". Ēķis believes the term suggests a technically precise person.
In Ēķis's assessment, Kulbergs stands out for a precise, concrete and laconic way of speaking, and he avoids wordiness. That, he argued, is why voters chose a doer. Ēķis summed it up: Kulbergs is a doer.
