President Trump's billions: White House windfall unmatched in history
Donald Trump earned at least $2.2 billion in his first year back in the White House, an unprecedented sum that raises ethics concerns.

According to a new financial disclosure report, Donald Trump made at least $2.2 billion in 2025, nearly four times the $622 million he reported in 2024. This income is unparalleled in US presidential history, contrasting sharply with Harry Truman, who lived on a $113 monthly Army pension after leaving office, and George W. Bush, who placed his investments in a blind trust.
Barbara Perry, a presidential historian at the University of Virginia's Miller Center, called the sum unprecedented. Trump's earnings were largely driven by cryptocurrency: $1.4 billion from crypto ventures, including $635 million in royalties from Celebration Coins, linked to the $TRUMP meme coin he launched before his second term. He also reported over $500 million from World Liberty Financial, a firm founded by his sons and the sons of Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy to the Middle East and Ukraine.
White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly denied that Trump or his family profited from the presidency. However, Trump has taken actions that benefited his businesses. In July, he signed legislation supporting stablecoins, just four months after World Liberty Financial launched its digital currency venture. In October, he pardoned Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.
Trump's family business and associates have also profited in other sectors. According to The New York Times, Trump struck a deal with Kazakhstan's president giving an American company access to a critical minerals project, and his sons later took a minority stake in a company involved. Cantor Fitzgerald, run by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's sons, also worked on the deal.
Trump attributed his profits to stock market gains and said he does not involve himself in family business dealings. Ethics watchdogs, including former White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter, argued that the situation presents a clear conflict of interest.
