Polish MP Questions Ministry Over Industrial Apple Price of 60 Groszy per Kilogram
Polish parliament member Paulina Matysiak has filed an interpellation with the agriculture ministry about industrial apple prices, now at 60 groszy per kg. The ministry has not yet responded.

Paulina Matysiak, a member of the Polish parliament, has submitted an interpellation, a formal written question to the government, to Poland's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. It concerns prices of apples destined for industrial processing, which currently stand at 60 groszy per kilogram. The report was published on 24 October 2026.
Why the price is a concern
According to the interpellation, prices offered by buying points and processing plants have fallen even though supply was limited. Growers meanwhile must cover costs for fertiliser, plant protection products, fuel, energy, labour, harvesting and transport.
What the MP wants to know
Matysiak asks whether the ministry is analysing the reasons for the price cuts and whether it has up-to-date calculations of the cost of producing a kilogram of apples. She also asks whether the ministry has passed information on the market situation to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK), or asked it to check for anti-competitive practices or abuse of contractual advantage. In addition, she raises the possibility of extra support for orchard owners and measures that could make the setting of purchase prices more transparent.
Earlier UOKiK action
The interpellation recalls that in April 2026 UOKiK imposed fines totalling 1.57 million zlotys for price collusion in the purchase of sour cherries and blackcurrants. The office has also conducted explanatory proceedings against further companies in the sector. This does not mean, however, that collusion has been found on the industrial apple market.
In recent days there have been reports of rates rising to about 0.60 zlotys per kg, but producers still point to a difficult economic situation. The agriculture ministry has not yet replied to the MP's interpellation.
