Polish media said on Friday that the Russian citizen whose detention was announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday had been preparing an assassination attempt against Ukrainian rapper Kyivstoner.

Tusk said the suspect was detained on August 7. The man allegedly planned to kill a dual Ukrainian and US citizen in Warsaw on Moscow's orders. The prime minister did not name the intended victim but described the person as inconvenient to Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime, adding that the killing had been prevented at the last moment. The arrest was carried out by Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) and police in cooperation with US services.

According to Polish media, the likely target was Kyivstoner, whose real name is Albert Vasiliev. In Russia, he is listed among people linked to extremist and terrorist activity.

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) issued a statement claiming that Kyivstoner had been involved in a special operation by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU). The operation allegedly aimed to deliver drones from Slovakia through Poland and Belarus into Russia for attacks on military infrastructure. The FSB also accused Vasiliev of drug trafficking.

Kyivstoner, a dual Ukrainian and US citizen, rejected the FSB's claims on Instagram.
