A 15-year-old boy fatally stabbed a school employee and wounded two other adults at his former school in Poland's Wyszków county, about 70 kilometres northeast of the capital Warsaw, on Thursday. Police detained the attacker. It is the second knife attack at a Polish school within a week.

How the attack unfolded

The incident took place at the John Paul II primary school. According to police, the teenager first attacked the school caretaker. He then also went at a teacher and the school director with a knife, but the two managed to restrain him. The caretaker, aged 37, died of his injuries.

Videos filmed by eyewitnesses have spread on social media. In one of them, police can be seen detaining the young attacker.

A separate detention

Police said they also detained a 17-year-old boy in another Polish city. He had announced that he planned to do "something impressive" at his own school. Officers found a bag containing two knives in his apartment.

The earlier case

It was previously reported that on 7 October a 19-year-old wounded nine people with a knife at a school in Ostrołęka. The source does not say whether the cases are connected, and it gives no motive for the attack.
