A court of first instance has sentenced an employee of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) to two years in prison and 220 hours of community service. The case concerns the deaths of two boys last year in the Pļavnieki neighbourhood of Riga. The convicted man is the father of one of the boys who died.

The court found him guilty of breaking the rules on storing weapons. Because of these violations, the boys gained access to a firearm without adult supervision, which led to the tragedy.

The ruling is a first-instance court decision. The source gives no further details about the circumstances of the case.
